DESCRIPTION
Regulatory Affairs Professionals are employed in the biotechnology and healthcare product industry, government, academia, and are involved in a range of services related to the manufacturing and testing of pharmaceuticals, medical devices, in vitro diagnostics, biologics, biotechnology, nutritional products, cosmetics and veterinary products. Due to the rapidly expanding biotechnology industry, there is a substantial need for highly trained professionals ready to perform the work required within this specialized industrial sector.

This program offers accessible credit courses through the University of Georgia at Gwinnett from UGA's College of Pharmacy leading to a Master of Science in Pharmacy (an existing UGA degree) with an emphasis in Regulatory Affairs. Development of the Regulatory Affairs pathway is guided by the University System of Georgia's Board of Regents' economic development objective.

Course work delivery for this program employs a combination of distance learning templates (90%) and a few weekend sessions (10%) specifically geared for the needs of working adult students. The program is
part-time program, i.e., courses are to be taken on a part-time basis. All courses are taught on-line and are 15-16 weeks in length (11 weeks for summer courses).

We use WebCT as the method by which this content is delivered. WebCT is a Web-based course management system. It allows faculty to create web pages to deliver course material and instruction. Students have access to content posted by the instructor including using syllabus, assignments, lectures, discussion boards, chat rooms, and quizzing. The College of Pharmacy has been a leader in distance learning instruction. Since 1998, it has offered web-based degree programs beginning with the Nontraditional Doctor of Pharmacy Degree for working pharmacists. And in January 2005, the college began offering graduate programs in Regulatory Affairs. We employ fulltime instructional managers with expertise in adult and distance learning methodologies, who work directly with regulatory content experts to develop, implement, and manage web based instruction.

Since 2005, the total number admitted into the Regulatory Affairs Graduate Certificate Program is 53 and the total admitted to the Masters degree program is 5 students. To date, 22 have completed the Graduate Certificate Program.
