Apply Early
New students are enrolled twice each year (fall and spring). For maximum financial aid submit your application for admission six months prior to the beginning of the semester for which you plan to enroll. The application deadline is 30 days prior to the beginning of the semester for which you plan to enroll.
Additional Information Required
- High school transcript — You are responsible for having your high school guidance counselor send your transcript to the EMU admissions office. (Also required of transfer applicants.) We cannot make this request for you.
- College entrance examination scores (SAT I or ACT) — Contact your high school guidance counselor for information concerning these tests. SAT I or ACT examination requirement is waived for transfer students with 15 credit hours or more. EMU's SAT code is 5181 and the ACT code is 4348.
- Transcript from each college or postsecondary school you have attended — You must send a written request to each college/school requesting that they send an official copy of your transcript directly to the EMU admissions office.
We recommend a campus visit and interview with an admissions counselor.
We will send you financial assistance information upon receipt of your application after January 1.
Admission Decision
The admission selection process is designed to identify those students who have potential for completing a university degree program. Factors considered include previous academic performance in high school or college, personal maturity, interest, ability as indicated by SAT I or ACT scores, and commitment to benefit from study at EMU.
Minimum requirements for first-year admission include high school grades of at least C average, rank in the upper half of graduating class, and acceptable SAT I or ACT scores. (SAT I scores should total at least 880 points combined, with preferred verbal and math scores of 400 each. Acceptable ACT scores have a composite score of 19 and preferred English and math scores of 19 each.)
