CAMPUS SUMMARY
Brescia University was founded by the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph in 1950. In 1951, Brescia began operating as a four-year college in response to requests from World War II veterans. In 1998, Brescia College became Brescia University. An independently supported, Catholic, coeducational institution, Brescia now offers a variety of associate and baccalaureate degree programs and one master's degree program. Its mission is to offer higher education in the Ursuline tradition, emphasizing the liberal arts and preparing its students for successful careers and for service to others. The Brescia University campus consists of sixteen (16) buildings within or adjacent to a two-block area near downtown Owensboro, a city with a metropolitan population of 55,000. Its facilities include a fully automated library; a well-equipped science building; an administration building; a campus center; and a graduate center. All are linked to the campus network by fiber optic cable. Brescia is located in Owensboro, Kentucky, on the Ohio River, which is easily accessible from any direction and is served by Northwest AirLink and Mesaba Airlines. The performing arts center, public library, art museum, natural science and history museum as well as restaurants, churches, and parks are within walking distance from the campus.
